FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator tells me how many lots of gold I should trade?

The position size calculator. You enter your account balance, the percentage you are willing to risk, your stop distance in pips and the instrument, and it returns a lot size. For XAU/USD one standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01, so a stop measured in dollars converts cleanly into pips before sizing.

What is the pip value calculator for on gold?

It converts a gold price move into money. Because one pip on XAU/USD is 0.01 and one standard lot is 100 oz, a 1.00 move is 100 pips and worth $100 per standard lot. The pip value calculator shows that figure for your lot size so you can compare a stop distance to your rand risk before entering.

How does the margin calculator handle the 1:200 retail cap?

It multiplies position notional by the leverage you select, capped at the South African maximum of 1:200 for retail and up to 1:500 for eligible or professional clients depending on instrument. As a worked example, a 0.10-lot gold position at 1:200 needs about $85.50 margin. Margin is a deposit lock, not your maximum loss.

Can the profit calculator show outcomes in rand?

Yes, in the sense that it converts a dollar result into rand at the rate you supply. The calculator itself works in the instrument's quote currency, so a gold profit is first a dollar figure and then a rand figure once converted. The rand number moves with the exchange rate, so it depends on the rate at the moment you close.

What do the pivot point tools add that the other calculators do not?

Pivot points give reference levels for the session rather than money figures. They calculate central, support and resistance levels from the prior period's high, low and close, which traders use to frame entries and stops. Feed those levels into the position size and pip value calculators to turn a level into a sized, risk-defined gold trade.
